Forget Progress, Tap Into Deepening

By Evan Sanders

When we let go of what we think we need to be, we permit ourselves the room to grow into who we actually are.

In our modern world, we have a bias as human beings to believe that we always must seek to be something more. We have to be prettier, funnier, richer and everything else in between. But all of these things that we believe that we really have to be stop us from truly expressing who we are deep down. We consistently evaluate ourselves against others and create false masks for ourselves so friends and family will like us more. Thing is, after a while, these masks always fall off and people end up seeing us for our true selves anyhow.

It's a lot less complicated, and much more fun when you actually do it, to be precisely who you are without any apologies.

This isn't to say that you shouldn't aim to enhance your life. But if you really are going to go down the path of personal development and deepening, you have to truly focus on doing it for yourself. In truth, that really is the only way that sustainable change comes to be. When you begin developing for other people or because someone just told you to do it, you don't essentially end up believing in what you are doing. Instead, development becomes something that you finally cross off a list a lifetime journey.

Be grateful for what you have now and who you are and should you be looking to take an excursion that would change you for the better, then develop for yourself. Develop because deep down you know that it's the best thing to do and that it will create a better future for yourself.

In the end, if we stay true to our own paths and believe in ourselves, we are truly capable of anything.
